What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to address signs of aging in the breasts. Over the years, the effects of gravity, pregnancy, and the natural aging process can cause the breasts to droop, sag, and lose volume. A breast lift can restore a youthful perkiness to the breasts by eliminating excess skin, lifting them to a more desirable position. Nipple location can also be corrected during a breast lift. In many cases, you may choose to combine a breast lift procedure with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction, depending on the current size of your breasts and your treatment goals.

What Can I Expect During the Breast Lift Procedure?

Before a breast lift, we will use anesthesia to ensure that you remain safe and comfortable throughout your treatment. Depending on your personal goals, we may use any of the following techniques:

• Crescent lift – A crescent lift is typically best suited for patients who only need a subtle lift. With this technique, a crescent-shaped incision is made around the top half of the nipple.
• Donut lift – With a donut lift, an incision is made all the way around the nipple, much like the periareolar technique of breast augmentation. This makes it easy to combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation.
• Lollipop lift – A lollipop lift features the same incision around the nipple as the donut lift, with an additional incision extending downward.
• Anchor lift – An anchor lift also features an incision around the circumference of the nipple. The incision extends downward like a lollipop lift, but curves into two different directions, resembling the shape of an anchor.

Once the appropriate incisions are made, we will remove excess skin and breast tissue to produce the desired lifting effect. At this stage, we will also be able to reposition your nipple so it is more centered on the breast. Then, the incisions are sealed and the treatment is complete.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect From a Breast Lift?

After a breast lift, you will notice firmer, perkier breasts that rest at a more youthful position on the chest. The results from a breast lift will be long-lasting, but they cannot prevent gradual changes from developing in the future due to changes in weight, pregnancy, and the natural aging process.

What Happens During Breast Lift Recovery?
