As a board-certified plastic surgeon serving patients in Boca Raton and current President of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, I’ve dedicated my career to advancing excellence in plastic surgery. My focus has always been on delivering safe, high-quality care founded on trust, transparency, and meaningful patient partnerships that support their long-term well-being.
My service as President of the statewide organization gives me the opportunity to extend that commitment beyond my own practice and help shape the future of Florida plastic surgery for patients and surgeons across the state.
What Is the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons (FSPS)?
FSPS is Florida’s premier organization for board-certified plastic surgeons. Founded in 1956, the society represents more than 200 surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)—the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
The society’s mission focuses on:
- Promoting the art, science, and ethical practice of plastic surgery
- Protecting patient safety through education and advocacy
- Supporting surgeons with ongoing learning and professional resources
- Providing Floridians with a trusted way to find qualified plastic surgeons
When you choose a member of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, you are choosing a surgeon who has undergone rigorous training, participates in continuing education, and is committed to ethical, patient-centered care.
What Does the President of FSPS Do?
People are often surprised to learn how much work goes on behind the scenes to support safe, high-quality plastic surgery in Florida. As president, I have the privilege of leading statewide efforts to strengthen patient safety and promote transparency in our field.
My work includes:
- Advocating for patient safety: I have testified before the Florida Board of Medicine and collaborated with state lawmakers to advance truth-in-advertising regulations and strengthen training requirements, ensuring that patients clearly understand who is performing their surgery and the qualifications held by the surgeon. In 2025, I joined more than 50 surgeons in Washington, D.C., meeting with congressional leaders to advocate for patient safety and federal updates to the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA). This legislation was recently introduced by Representatives Kat Cammack (R-FL) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and has 14 bipartisan co-sponsors thus far.
- Promoting education and collaboration: The society organizes scientific meetings, such as FSPS educational events, where surgeons from Florida and beyond share new techniques, outcomes data, and best practices. This helps ensure that care in South Florida and across the state reflects the latest advances in our specialty.
- Monitoring legislation and regulation: FSPS is actively involved in discussions about office-based surgery regulations and scope-of-practice issues. The goal is simple: protect patients and maintain high standards for everyone who seeks plastic surgery in Florida.
- Guiding members and mentoring future surgeons: We help plastic surgeons grow as clinicians, leaders, and practice owners. This includes mentoring younger surgeons, fostering innovation, and ensuring that our specialty continues to attract talented surgeons who are committed to doing what’s best for patients.
- Supporting continuity of care: I created a statewide initiative called SaFE that improves patient safety during emergencies—including coordinated aftercare systems used during hurricanes to ensure patients continue to receive care when life is disrupted.
Ultimately, my role as president is about safeguarding today’s standards and shaping the future of safe, high-quality aesthetic care. While much of my work focuses on protecting patients here in Florida, I also advocate for improvements to plastic surgery policy and education at the national level.
Leading National Advocacy & Advancing the Field
In addition to my role as FSPS president, I am actively involved in influencing the policies, standards, and educational resources that guide the future of plastic surgery.
- Driving change and patient protections: I represent Florida surgeons at the national level through leadership roles with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where I serve on the Regulatory Committee (Chair), the Finance Committee, the Audit Committee (Member-at-Large), the PlastyPAC Board of Governors, and as a former Florida delegate in the ASPS Assembly of Representatives.
- Shaping professional education and innovation: I contribute to advancing the specialty as associate editor of Plastic Surgery News, as a peer reviewer for academic journals, and through advisory positions with industry leaders such as Mentor and Allergan—roles that allow me to help guide new technologies, research standards, and evidence-based practice.
What Sets Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons Apart?
A common question I hear is, “How long does it take to be a plastic surgeon?” The answer underscores why board certification matters so much.
Becoming a board-certified plastic surgeon requires:
- 4 years of college
- 4 years of medical school
- 6 to 8 years of surgical training, depending on the pathway (In many cases, surgeons also pursue additional fellowship training)
- Successful completion of written and oral board examinations
- A commitment to lifelong learning and recertification
In total, that’s typically 14 to 16 years of education and training after high school. During that time, surgeons learn not only how to perform procedures but also how to do them safely, manage complications, and deliver results that respect both form and function.
Why Choose a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon From FSPS?
In Florida, anyone with a medical degree can market themselves as a “cosmetic surgeon,” but that doesn’t mean they are a board-certified plastic surgeon. Members of FSPS:
- Are certified by the ABPS
- Have comprehensive training in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery
- Uphold strict ethical standards and prioritize patient safety
- Stay current with advances through ongoing education and involvement in state, national, and international organizations
- Meet the highest standards recognized by the Florida Board of Medicine and the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
When you choose an FSPS member, you are choosing a surgeon who is part of a statewide network dedicated to safety, transparency, and excellence in plastic surgery.
What This Means for My Practice
As a plastic surgeon in Boynton Beach, I care for patients from Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and the greater South Florida community. I bring the same commitment to safety and innovation into every patient experience.
- Safety comes first: I perform procedures only in accredited settings that meet rigorous standards for anesthesia, equipment, and staffing.
- Care is personalized: Every patient has their unique goals, anatomy, and lifestyle. I take time to understand what you want and design a surgical or nonsurgical plan that fits your needs.
- Your patient experience is a top priority: My practice incorporates advanced surgical protocols—including Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) techniques to reduce downtime—and pioneering procedures such as the BeautiFUL Lift performed in-office under local anesthesia.
- Results are natural-looking and balanced: From facial rejuvenation and breast surgery to body contouring and reconstructive procedures, my aim is to enhance your appearance while preserving your individuality.
Plastic surgery is constantly evolving, with new techniques, technologies, and approaches emerging every year. As president of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons and a practicing plastic surgeon, I strive to ensure that anyone who seeks plastic surgery in Florida can benefit from these advancements in a way that is safe, ethical, and patient-focused.
