Years of sun exposure can leave behind an uneven tone, dark spots, and rough texture. Fortunately, modern laser treatments for sun damage can help reverse those effects, restoring smoother, clearer, younger-looking skin. Whether you want to minimize discoloration, soften fine lines, or erase stubborn sun spots, laser sun spot removal offers a safe and effective way to renew your complexion.

Why Consider Laser Resurfacing?

Sun damage accelerates aging by breaking down collagen, triggering the formation of pigmentation patches, and causing a rough or leathery texture. Laser treatments precisely treat those areas, encouraging the skin’s natural healing and collagen regeneration to reveal smoother, more even skin underneath.

At our practice, we offer several laser-based and energy-based treatments, as well as tailored skincare regimens to enhance and maintain results.

Our Laser Resurfacing Options

When you come in for a consultation, we’ll tailor the approach based on your skin type, degree of sun damage, downtime preferences, and long-term goals. Here are key options we offer:

Fractional C02 Laser Resurfacing

We use the Tetra CO2 laser, a fractional ablative device that creates precise micro-zones of damage, leaving adjacent skin intact to help speed healing. This approach is ideal for deeper lines, more pronounced sun spots, and rough texture caused by sun exposure. Because the laser zones trigger the body’s repair processes, new collagen and elastin gradually remodel the skin over the course of weeks to months.

The fractional design also helps reduce downtime compared to older, fully ablative lasers, which remove the skin’s outer layer. We can adjust the intensity, so lighter settings may offer shorter recovery but require multiple sessions. More intense settings deliver desired improvements in fewer treatments.

Non-Ablative Lasers

Non-ablative lasers are a gentler option for patients who prefer a less aggressive approach or who have milder sun damage. While they don’t remove the surface layer, they deliver energy beneath the skin to promote collagen remodeling over several sessions. The trade-off is that results typically appear more gradually over time.

Forever Young BBL®

Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses broadband light technology to address skin conditions associated with aging and sun damage. Sciton’s Forever Young BBL is a powerful IPL device that delivers light energy deep into the skin to help correct these concerns.

Our practice also offers laser skin tightening modalities, such as Sciton SkinTyte®, microneedling with radiofrequency (RF), and Sofwave™ ultrasound, to address laxity and loss of firmness. These options can be combined with resurfacing for a more dramatic rejuvenation.

Protecting Your Skin—Before and After Laser Treatment

Sun exposure can be more intense in coastal environments like ours because sand and water reflect UV rays, increasing your overall exposure. That makes sun damage more likely. For that reason:

  • Sun protection must come first. Consistently use broad-spectrum SPF, hats, and sunglasses, and stay in the shade whenever possible.
  • When you do pursue laser treatments, choose an experienced, board-certified provider who understands the nuances of sun damaged skin, pigmentation risk, and post-treatment care.
  • Don’t assume that simply “turning on” a laser is sufficient. Proper patient selection, preconditioning (such as priming skin care), and precise energy settings are crucial in minimizing side effects, including hyperpigmentation and uneven healing.

How To Protect Your Skin After Treatment

After any laser resurfacing or tightening session, your skin is especially vulnerable. Here are general aftercare guidelines we emphasize for our patients:

  • Avoid sun exposure completely until your skin’s barrier has healed. This typically lasts for the first 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the intensity of your treatment.
  • Use gentle, non-irritating cleansers and soothing, physician-approved moisturizers.
  • Apply mineral (physical) sunscreen once your skin allows it. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and reapply often.
  • Wear hats and protective clothing. Don’t rely solely on sunscreen.
  • Avoid direct heat and extreme sweating (such as saunas or vigorous exercise) in the initial days.
  • Follow all of our post-procedure instructions.

Because your regenerated skin is more sensitive, rigorous sun protection is essential to preserve results and prevent new damage.
